Eldorado-Ivanpah Transmission Project Approved
In late May, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) provided a Record of Decision and formally approved Southern California Edison’s proposed Eldorado-Ivanpah Transmission Project in San Bernardino County, Calif. and Clark County, Nev. The project includes the granting of right-of-way to Southern California Edison to upgrade approximately 35 miles of the Eldorado-Ivanpah transmission line and build a new substation near Boulder City, Nev. The upgraded transmission line will carry electricity produced from renewable energy projects proposed for the Ivanpah Valley, including the Ivanpah SEGS. The proposed substation will be built within an existing designated utility corridor connecting at Edison’s Eldorado Substation near Boulder City, Nev. Upgrades to the transmission line are expected to take 18 months, with construction beginning in late 2011.
