Ivanpah’s First Translocated Tortoise
The approximately 100 trained desert tortoise biologists at the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System (ISEGS) have been providing world-class care for the tortoises that were found on the project site. In early October, the project reached an important milestone when biologists translocated the first desert tortoise from the nursery pens on-site to habitat adjacent to the project. Below, you can view a video of the translocation. The healthy female tortoise has readjusted well to her new home – biologists are closely monitoring her and she appears very content and happy. Additional tortoises will be moved into new habitat in the spring.
