Ivanpah Steel Supplier’s New Manufacturing Plant in Arizona is Progressing on Schedule
To date, more than 500 workers have been employed by the Ivanpah project, with that number growing each day. Led by investments from NRG Energy and Google, Ivanpah is bringing economic opportunity to the High Desert region, creating good, union jobs—as many as 1,000 at the peak of construction, with 86 ongoing operations and maintenance jobs. It is also catalyzing further economic benefits throughout the supply chain.
Just a few months ago, BrightSource celebrated the groundbreaking for a new plant in Surprise, Arizona, where steel for the Ivanpah project will be manufactured. BrightSource supplier Gestamp Solar Steel is building the facility, and the first phase will cover 75,000 square feet and will employ 50 people. The project remains on schedule; construction progress can be seen in the photos below.
Gestamp estimates that 300 jobs will be created at full build-out of the facility. The Gestamp Solar Steel Facility construction shows that solar projects create economic opportunities not only on-site, but also for suppliers throughout the supply chain. As the solar energy market continues to grow, job-creation ripple effects such as this will be seen throughout the manufacturing ecosystem.
