Aerial views of progress at the Ivanpah construction site
We’re pleased to share further photos of progress on the construction of the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, from an aerial perspective. The images below demonstrate that construction of the power block at the ISEGS Unit 1 is well underway. The power block area will include the steel tower that will support the Solar Receiver Steam Generator, or steam boiler. We’re also actively performing construction on the Unit 2 and Unit 3 power blocks. Pylon (post for the heliostat) placement in the Unit 1 solar field continues.
In the heliostat assembly facilities (heliostat assembly and pad bonding buildings), 173,000 heliostats will be assembled. BrightSource’s LPT solar thermal energy system uses a low-impact design in which heliostats are situated on pylons, which are then inserted directly into the ground. This enables vegetation to coexist underneath and around the mirrors, reducing the need for extensive land grading or the use of concrete pads.
Aerial photos follow here – stay tuned for further updates.
